“Henehene Kou ‘Aka” is a song by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. It was release on his album Facing Future in 1993. As the song starts, you hear the strum of the ukulele. When Israel begins to sing, you hear pahu and kilo join in as well. The lyrics are a mix of Hawaiian and English. You can hear the English singing about “you and I”, and it makes you think that this may be a love song. When you translate the song, the title “Henehene Kou ‘Aka” translates to “Your Laughter is so Contagious”.
I chose this song after listening to other variations of music from the region, and none of them really stuck out to me. I have enjoyed other music by him, such as his hit “Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World“, and figured that any music by him was a good safe bet to find what I was looking for in my song share.
