This song I chose is a hula dancing song. As the song begins, you can hear voices singing. There is one main male voice with a choir of young sounding voices singing with him. Then, the song becomes more energetic by adding in some drums and what sounds like some type of idiophone. In the middle of the song, the voices stop singing and just the drums are being played. The song changes its beat a couple of times. However, once the beat does change, there is a long period where the same beat is being played. I would say that the phonic structure of this song is monophonic since there’s either just one voice singing or multiple voices singing the same thing. I chose this song because it is a fun upbeat song that you can dance to. I’ve been to Hawaii a few times and have gotten the privilege to see hula dancing live at luaus I’ve been to. I’ve always enjoyed hearing the different beats and voices that go along with hula songs. Most hula songs tell a story or share a message with the words that they sing, as well as with the movements of their bodies, which I find very fascinating.
