For this week’s song share, I asked my good friend to recommend to me her favorite K-Pop song, as she’s a big fan. The song I chose today is called “Gone Away” by a group called Stray Kids. Stray Kids is a South Korean pop group that has eight members, and that was created from a 2017 reality tv show that has the same name!

This song definitely holds extremely strong – before looking into the lyrics, I was thinking they would be singing about love. This song actually tells the story of heartbreak. The lyrics translate to “I’ll get you out of the messy memories, Burning the most painful traces of you, blow it all away, I try hard, Pretend like it’s nothing”, which expresses the feeling of trying to forget someone you once had cared a lot about.  I found it very interesting how this song is very Western-inspired, with a slow 4/4 tempo and a steady, consistent beat behind the words being sung. It felt like any other Western pop song!
