Possibly the catalyst of what is known as the Kpop Phenomena, “Gangnam Style,” by PSY is one of the most well known Kpop examples relevant in not only our Western Society, but all around the globe, too. I chose this audio example because everyone knows the song. As discussed in class, Kpop serves an important role in Korean Society. The purpose of songs like these are mostly to entertain, this one especially. Typically consisting of electronic percussion backing and a more western approach to vocals, Kpop examples tend to be similar to “Gangnam Style,” in which there is lyrical division, with a repeating chorus and a bridge, similar to western style music of today.
