Gandanga(Zimbabwe)

The song that I chose for my song share assignment is Gandanga, Written by Otto & The Mutapa Calling. This song is a very high energy fast paced song right from the beginning. The song is very catchy and gets into a rhythm very fast. Similar to what we did in class it sounds like a collection of multiple people and multiple percussion instruments strung together. We can hear the prominent use of a xylophone type instrument coupled with symbols and drums to complete the piece. Overall I really enjoyed and would recommend this piece to anyone who likes fast groovy music. This song really changes my perspective on how sub saharan cultures play music. I thought it would be a lot of drums. However this piece shatters this narrative.
