The song “Freedom” by Vanessa Quai is a reggae song recorded in 2002. In the same year, it reached the top of the charts in Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands, and then ranked second in Papua New Guinea. I found the recording on YouTube, looking for woman Oceanian musicians. I like the instrumentals in this song, and the beat is very catchy.
The reason I chose this song is because it embodies one of my favorite things about music: music gives freedom and power. When you’re playing an instrument or singing a song, you get to relax for a moment and just enjoy what you’re doing. All of your worries and cares fall away. Music is also a way of uniting different people, since it’s almost a universal language. I think the lyrics say it best:
