The song I chose is Dublin in the Rare Old Times or The Rare Ould Times, which is a song by the Irish folk band The Dubliners, founded in Dublin in 1962. Dublin is the capital of the Republic of Ireland, hence the name Dubliners. The Dubliners are one of the most influential of Ireland’s traditional folk bands, even to this day! The song Dublin in the Rare Old Times was released in 1979 from the band’s album Together Again. I chose the wrong because I thought the meaning was very interesting! The song describes the story of changes and modernization of Dublin over time, and long-standing traditions are fading. The song incorporates many aspects of traditional Irish folk music. It makes listeners feel the song’s timelessness and beauty as the band describes the changing Dublin and altering ways of life during the 60s. Dublin in the Rare Old Times became a popular song throughout Ireland and in the world around the 1970s!
