I chose the song “Dos Oruguitas” from Disney’s Encanto. “Dos Oruguitas” was recorded by Columbian singer song-writer Sebastián Yatra but written by Lin Manuel Miranda. In the movie, the song is played during a flashback where their family got the gift a miracle following the sacrifice of Mirabel’s Abuelo. Lin Manuel Miranda was said to be inspired by “the idea that caterpillars build something without understanding why, and then destroy themselves to become something new.” “Dos Oruguitas” uses instruments like vocals, violin, guitar, cello, and harp to create the soft, smooth, and emotional song that immediately tugs at your heart strings. The song has been nominated for awards like Best Original Song at the 94th Academy Awards and Best Song at the 2021 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. I chose this song because I love the movie Encanto and I knew that it had South/Central American roots
