This traditional Jamaican song was created by Louise Bennett. The song first starts with a man singing a few high notes, and Louise Bennett then sings after him. Louise Bennett along with about two men, then sing basically back and forth, and this goes on for a while, until an instrument comes in. There was only an instrument being played throughout the whole song, and it was the drum. It was being played somewhat slow, but with rhythm. Louise Bennett was singing quite slow and fast at the same time. There was definitely high and low deep notes both from Louise and the men who were singing with her. I believe that the purpose of this song was especially for Jamaican tradition. But, I also think that this song was about telling something, like a story, because from the way Louise Bennett was singing for a little bit, then paused, and then either the one man or two men said something after her. They were essentially singing back to each other, and it kept going till the very end of the song. Also due to the fact that in the title it seems like it’s about daylight, probably talking about the country Jamaica, itself. The reason why I chose this example, was because I liked how calm pace and simple it was. Just a couple of voices, along with a drum playing along with it. This is what I would imagine for a Jamaican song to sound like, especially a traditional one. I found this song in youtube.
