In short, it’s a christian song. Ethiopia was (and still is) a early home of christianity that would later found the coptic branch. Religious discourse aside, faith is heavily prevalent in it is easily evident in their songs revolving religion. Most, including this one, have a singer with a single instrument, generally guitar, sing about whatever topic of it is currently swaying them. Of course this isn’t to discount choruses and such, but for this piece at least it is a single performer. It is slow and somber which allows listeners to reflect about many things, though given the topic it is generally assumed to be spiritual matters.
