Cao Van Lau was the composer of this piece. The piece later became the most famous song of the Don Ca Tai Tu genre. The rough translation of the title means “Night Drum Beats Cause Longing for Absent Husband”. Cao’s wife had to leave him because of Vietnamese customs, which sparked him to write this song. Cao Van Lau was credited with the creation of a new genre of Vietnamese music called Cai Luong, which had some inspiration from Cao’s love song.
