The song I chose for this chapter is a performance of Como La Flor by Selena live from the Astrodome. I selected this song because it is a popular example of Spanish music from Mexico. The song is a love/breakup song and it starts out slow but builds as it goes along and changes tempo. The musical elements resemble dance music when the tempo changes and this observation is reinforced because, in the video of the performance, Selena and her backup dancers and band members begin dancing when the song builds. The lyrics are slightly sad but are about letting go and moving on to the next thing in life, so they could also be seen as empowering in a way. The melody in contrast to the lyrics is also interesting because the melody sounds upbeat once it builds from the initial state, but the lyrics are sad and are about losing love, but you would not think that from the sound of the song.
