This song, called “Chulu Chululu”, has been covered by a wide variety of artists and singers across the globe. There are many different versions of this song, and after listening to a few, I decided I liked this one the most. This Fijian song is considered very popular and well-know in Fiji and the Pacific, however, only part of it is actually in Fijian. This upbeat and joyful tune is considered to be a popular party and dance song. The song begins with some male singers, and is followed by female singers who sing majority of the song, although the male singers sing small parts throughout the song. It sounds like there are multiple singers, and it sounds like there is only one instrument used in this version, which would be the ukulele. One ukulele is used as a background sound, and acts as the “base” for the song, while another is played a little louder and plays its own tune, sometimes by itself and sometimes along with the singers. I chose this song because it gives me the feeling of actually being on the island of Fiji, and it gave me this warm feeling, which was nice since it’s the middle of January in Wisconsin! I also like this song because I really liked the tune that the louder ukulele played, and it reminded me of other songs that I’ve listened to on my own.
