“Can’t Buy me Love” is a piece written by the Beatles, one of the most popular musical groups in human history. The Beatles were a British rock band that made music together from the late 1950s into the 1970s. They revolutionized Western popular music and are still adorned around the world today.

Following the pattern of my past Song Shares, I wanted to look into a more contemporary piece of music to contrast with the more traditional pieces covered in class, in order to gain a fuller picture of the content. The Beatles are a very common band that comes to mind when thinking of European Music, but I chose them because they really made a major contribution to the musical world, and because they hold a special place in my heart as a young musician. I also recently learned that they themselves made a point to study world music in India, and even integrated some of the things they learned into some of their music.

I specifically chose “Can’t Buy me Love” because it is an earlier piece, having been released in 1964.

The song itself is similar to other music from the period, but already seems to show signs of a unique sound. There is one lead vocalist, a drum set, a bass guitar, a rhythm guitar, and a lead guitar. This was a common arrangement of instruments at the time. Over the years the Beatles began to experiment more and produced a wide variety of many unique songs.
