For this unit I tried to think of a song that my parents introduced to me because they were my first influences. This is one of my moms favorite songs and she used to play this around the house all of the time when I was growing up. It is by John Denver who we discussed as a prominent artist in America. He has many famous songs but this one happens to be one that he wrote himself. 

Throughout this piece you can hear the guitar, a cow bell at the beginning, piano, and some other stringed instruments. This song is repetitive in its lyrics and features. It has a happy vibe to it and a positive message. To me this song is very American. The line of the “The stories you tell Aye, Calypso, I sing to your spirit The men who have served you So long and so well” reminds me of how our beautiful country came to be. It came from people who fought for freedom and each part of our country has a different story which is truly amazing.
