When I saw what our topic was this week, I was feeling like I had a song in the back of my mind that had always stuck with me. After about 10 minutes of intense Googling, I found what I was looking for.

The song I chose today is called Bum Bum Bole, from an Indian Hindu-language movie called Taare Zameen Par (Like Stars on Earth). The movie, directed and starred in by Shaan, Aamir Khan, is a lighthearted story about children who have different learning styles in school. The movie (and this song, especially) highlight the struggle that many children nowadays face when in standard lecture-teaching style classrooms. It’s such a cute and heartwarming movie that I remember really enjoying. I watched this movie in one of my middle school foreign language classes. I’ve sung along to it ever since, even ten years later.

“Bum bum bole, masti mein dole” : “Swing along and have lots of fun”

“Pankh zara phailao naye khwaab bhun le” : “Let’s weave new dreams”.
