This song is titled “Bopong,” and it is an example of Indonesian Gamelan music. As you can hear in the piece, a variety of percussion instruments are layered within each other to create interesting and dissonant harmonies. I chose this piece first because I have always wanted to visit Bali, where the song is from, so I started looking for pieces from around that area. And, I chose this example in particular because I like how the percussion comes together to create a distinct melodic line while also appreciating various dissonances throughout.  The song also features a wind-like type instrument that doubles the melody and goes through a number of tempo changes that emphasize different aspects of the piece.
