I decided to choose a song from the band Queen because the lead singer Freddie Mercury was actually Parsi-Indian. His birth given name was Farrokh Bulsara with Farrokh meaning “fortunate and happy.” While he was alive he did not speak much about his ethnicity but when he was 8 years old he had study at a boarding school in India. In the 80s and 90s the band had been very popular in Parsi households because of Freddie Mercury. His songwriting had evidence of his ethic childhood, with this song having postcolonial references. There is a lyric of asking ‘Bismillah’ to let him go which means in the name of Allah. I have chosen this song because I personally use music to connect with others such as friends and family. I feel as though the music from Queen is a fan favorite which is loved by many. I also have a special connection to the band Queen because my last year of dance my coach decided to make a jazz piece to a compilation of the music. https://youtu.be/fJ9rUzIMcZQ
