This song is very important to the Maldive’s culture as it originates from a small island of Dighura. This group of performers refer to themselves as Bodu Beru meaning in English “Big Drum”. They do chant like singing along with the playing of drums which is very traditional in this south asian area. The drums include one side being the rhythm and one side being the bass as they synchronize but, do not synchronize with the voices. The materials that they use for the drums is quite interesting as well as they use coconut tree skins and the skin of sting rays. Translating the lyrics of their chants include songs of fishing. Based on this upbeat pace I would consider this very joyful and entertaining for parties and get togethers.
