I chose Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto. I enjoy listening to violin concertos for fun and for concentration, and I initially enjoyed Barber’s Adagio for Strings when we played it my senior year of high school, so I figured I would listen to his concerto, and I enjoy it. Samuel Barber is an American 20th century composer and his most famous work, Adagio for Strings, has been used in many different films over the years to portray heartache and sorrow. His writing has a lot of elements similar to works composed during the romantic era and was influenced by numerous other composers over the years, including experimenting with atonality and 12-tone rows, which sound very dissonant.
