The piece I chose for my song share is called “Arabian Gypsy” and is performed by Georges Lammam & Gabriel Navia and the National Arab Orchestra Takht Ensemble. There are so many elements to this piece that made me excited to use it for my song share. I really enjoy the element of the Arabic Takht ensemble that is similar to that of an American jazz band. There are many moments where there is a back and forth of individual soloists playing and then the group playing. It adds a unique quality to the style of the piece, I also find it so interesting that each element (instrument) in the piece has it’s own unique sound each of which are highlighted at some point during the piece. The beginning shines a spotlight on the 2 guest players, Georges Lammam & Gabriel Navia, both of whom play these exquisite solos that are so fast and improvised in style. They really get the audience excited for the rest of the piece, and made me excited to listen to the full 10 minute piece. Something else I enjoy about the piece is the flow it has and the fact that it has this groove and beat that would make anyone want to get up and dance. Overall this was a really enjoyable piece and I was so impressed by each of the solo highlights throughout it.
