American Pie is one of the most quintessential American songs from the mid to late 1900s. Originally written after a plane crash killed a number of early rock stars and, to many at the time, seemed like it killed the music they loved along with them. The song has a heavily nostalgic feeling to it, and includes tamborine, guitar, and a number of other fairly common instruments combined into a half rock half pop sound thats incredibly catchy.

The reason I chose this song is because, since this is the last song share I’ll be doing, I thought it would be fitting to choose something sentimental to me. American Pie was one of the first songs I was introduced to, having first heard it over the radio in the car with my mother, we were driving down the highway to the beach one summer. From there I listened to it on CD, and eventually, it became the first song I memorized the words to, I can still sing it mostly word for word today, and its celebration of music still takes me back to when I was young and things were simple.
