Al Qantara is a beautiful Arabic Taqasim piece. Originally created by the three authors above, it is typically played in an Arabic Takht featuring classic Arabic instruments, but for this performance, Western instruments such as a guitar, flute, and string bass are featured in the music. However, the classical Middle Eastern themes are not lost in the addition of these instruments. As Dr. Waroff’s husband had said, the Oud creates a quiet melody that is reflected in the calm yet beautiful tones played by the supporting instruments. The instruments come together and create a wonderful piece of calming music.
