Song with Tango: https://youtu.be/kKe8N7In3tk?si=k1lIMkWSi412E8u5
The song Al Compás Del Corazón Translates to “To the Rhythm of the Heart” and was written by Homero Expósito but composed by Domingo Federico. The song from 1942 was composed during a time when Argentina was marked by political strife and global tensions due to World War II. The tango is supposed to reflect this and the emotions that come along with these difficult times. The title and rhythm of the song are supposed to suggest a dance led by the pulse of a beating heart. It’s also supposed to help connect individuals to their own emotions as they listen or dance along. The song overall is still very popular when it comes to Argentine Tango today. I’ve decided to share this song with the class not only because of the strong story behind it but I think the cultural aspects of the dance and the way the song moves are something to highlight. This is why I’m also sharing a video of a couple dancing to the song as well. I thought the singing was strong but matched with the instrumental well and you can see it all work together through the dance as it tells a story to the audience.
