Who created the song was Halau Hula Ka No’eau, which is Hawai’i Arts Ensemble, in English. This song is a traditional hula, a traditional Hawaiian dance. When the song is first being heard, one can imagine that in a way they are telling a story, through the actual song and from the different types of vocal sounds they are making. Especially in the beginning. The reason why I say this, is because between the pauses of the drum and along with the people who are singing, the main singer/narrator seems to be telling them a phrase to the singers or clarifying something. The description of the musical characteristics about the song, is that they are playing a drum originated from Hawaii, called a “Pahu Drum”. That’s the only instrument that seems to being used, along with the singing. Another characteristic is the uniqueness of the different voice ranges. They sing either soft, high and rather loud to then their voices going low and fading a bit towards the end. The reason why I chose this example, is because the title of the song caught my attention, and at the end, the music was interesting. I also thought and imagined at first that they were telling some type of story, and it turned out they actually were.
