The piece I chose for my song share is a familiar tune to me, “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC, but it is unique because it is being played on the modern guzheng, a Chinese plucked zither. Even though this isn’t a traditional piece from East Asia, I found it to be really cool and not a pairing–that being the song and instrument–I would ever think to work, but it does. The way Moyun plucks the strings of the gezheng is really impressive and the fact that there is no music being read from is also really interesting. I noticed Moyun has almost guitar pick-like pieces on each of her fingers for the plucking of the instrument. There is also a knob on the side of the gezheng that Moyun moves frequently throughout the piece almost as if she is tuning the strings of the gezheng. Overall this was a really cool take on a great song.
