This song is a fast-paced Egyptian Folk song that translates to “Sing more”. The flute and drum instruments set the tone of this piece which is a kind of mystical and hypnotic. The instruments also set the rhythm for the song that never really changes throughout the piece. As the song continues the instruments are not the main focus of the song and it is the woman and later on, men’s voices that are complemented by the instruments. The men’s and women’s voices then have this call and response which adds to the hypnotic feel of the music because it feels like she is making them sing. There is also a beautiful string solo that then transitions back into the flute and tambourine combination that carries on through the rest of the song.
I chose this song because I liked the unique feel to the song. I really enjoyed listening the the Egyptian music in class because it wasn’t anything like I have heard before. I really like how it is calming yet has that mystical hypnotic feel to it. I don’t know if it was the intention of this song to have that call and response sound like the woman’s voice was controling the male voices, but having the hypnotic tone mixed witht he menaing of the song title being “sing more” was really creative that drew me to this song.
