The name of the song translates to “Chiang Mai Girl”, and according to a graduate student who gave a brief yet insightful explanation on the song, “It’s a very classic one and you will hear this song playing everywhere when you are traveling in the northern part of Thailand, especially in Chiang Mai region. The style of the song is Folk, the rhythm represents the slowness and calmness of the northern people, plus they used the northern dialectic (which is different from the central Thai language) to sing the song” (Supasai Vongkulbhisal). I enjoyed this song because of it’s slow and calming sound. Although it’s different from what we listened to in class, it I think it’s cool that it’s considered a classic in Thailand. I know some classics in America of course, but it’s really interesting to know what one might sound like in a different part of the world, because our classics here are so iconic to us, it must be the same way anywhere else. It feels more personal to hear something that is considered a classic. https://youtu.be/EOwkQiUvCSE?si=ga4eByRm5Pif5Q-w
