This song is performed by native Bougainville people, where each village has its own unique band and sound. I found this recording on YouTube and was immediately drawn to the unique sounds that can be made with the bamboo. I also listened to many interpretations of modern, popular music using the bamboo instruments, but decided to choose this more traditional piece because of the sounds of their voices blending together and the intense playing of the bamboo. I also found it interesting that the males often play the bamboo instruments using their flip flops. The purpose of these Bamboo Bands is to bring people together. Some intriguing characteristics of this song include the pitch and range, the tempo, and the dynamics. The notes of this song are very high and it gives a unique range when combined with the instruments since the instruments have a low pitch. The tempo is fast, especially when watching the video, we can see how vigorously the men are playing the instruments. Lastly, the dynamics or volume of the song is very loud and stays loud for the duration of the song. They sing loud enough to be heard over the instruments.
