For this week’s song share I chose a Sri Lankan Folk Song called Nana Vile. While researching this song I wasn’t able to find a translation or an original song. I chose a modern rendition of Nana Vile, produced and performed by Miran Tharindu. I chose his rendition of the song because I could connect with its western qualities as well as the song’s beautiful traditional sounds. I was drawn to the acoustic guitar in the beginning of the video which turned into a more traditional sound as the video went on. Another thing I was drawn to was the vocals and how they didn’t match a common western scale like I was expecting based on the the western instruments I was seeing at the start of the video.
