Mr. Brightside by The Killers is a well known song throughout the United States, which is the main reason I chose it. It is one of the first songs to come to mind when thinking of songs most people should know, other than Born in the USA and Sweet Caroline, as we mentioned in class. The band consists of four men and each with their own primary instrument in the band – a drummer, electric guitar, bass guitar and vocalist. The band originated from Las Vegas Nevada and was the band’s debut single from the album Hot Fuss released in 2004, making this the most well known song from The Killers.
The song starts out with two cymbal crashes and then a melody line played on the electric guitar followed by the bass guitar and vocalist. The vocalist’s range in the song is from G#3-G#4, so only within an octave reach and is in most people’s talking ranges, making it a perfect sing a long song. The vocalist cuts out from the chorus to the second verse from 1:28 to 1:41 while all the instruments just vamp what is played in the beginning. Both verses are very similar lyric wise and are the exact same rhythm wise. There is another vamp session from 2:58 to 3:12 and the vocalist comes back in just repeating the words “I never” and the vocalist fades out, then bass guitar, drums and electric guitar last.
