For this assignment, I selected “Over the Rainbow / What a Wonderful World” performed by Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwoʻole.

This song combines two classics, “Over the Rainbow” (1939) and “What a Wonderful World” (1967). Kamakawiwoʻole combined these two songs and recreated them to spread hope and peace in 1993. His recreation has a very minimalistic sound. It really just features Kamakawiwoʻole’s soft and steady strumming on the ukulele and his soft and gentle vocals.

I chose this song because I find it to be very peaceful and calming, and something I honestly really love listening to. I like how it’s so simple but so good, and shows that songs don’t need to be super large or loud in order to be heard and loved around the world.
