I chose this song because I recently went to one of his concerts. He is from a coastal town in north County Wicklow, near the Irish capital of Dublin. The song has a metaphor for relationships and people that were important to someone being seen as trees that you take shelter under, while the fire is a jealous person that burns down that shelter. This song stood out to me at the concert because it has an impactful feel during the chorus with the higher echoing vocals and strong downbeats of drums and bass. The song before the chorus is very ethereal sounding and light with a dancing guitar melody. I also enjoyed the feel of the song because there is simultaneously a triplet esque feel with a duple feel at times. This song is a light song and I thought it was an interesting direction to take for me since I have usually not chosen songs that would be known in the “pop music” realm.
