This song is (The Bonnie Banks of) Loch Lomond, a Scottish folksong centered around Scotlands largest loch. Loch Lomond is said to be an adaptation of an 18th century song about a king’s love who dies and their only way back to Scotland was via “the low road” of death. There is also a variant with the same melody but different words called “Red is the Rose” and is of Irish tradition. I features mainly voices, but also guitar, fiddle, and/or flute. I chose this song because I heard it for 2 months every spring for the last 7 years because it was one of the most popular songs chosen to sing at the Minnesota State High School Solo and Ensemble Competition. I included 2 links, one is of Ella Roberts, a soloist with a cool music video. The other is Peter Hollens who recorded himself singing 3 different parts and mashing them together.
