The song I’ve selected is titled مبتهج with multiple featured artists, but the artist I want to focus on is Rabih Abou-Khalil, who is the oud player on this tune. I picked this tune because Rabih Abou-Khalil is a Lebanese artist who combines elements of Arabic music with jazz and classical music. He moved from Lebanon to Munich, Germany during the Lebanese Civil War in 1978, which is where he studied classical music and other styles.
I picked this song because the repeated motif introduced at the beginning of the song and the repetitive rhythmic structure reminds me of chill LoFi beats. The music has this calming and almost hypnotic quality to it, which is what made me think of LoFi beats you might listen to to study or unwind. I also like that the song stays interesting throughout the whole piece with the introduction of new melodic lines, instruments, and improvisatory melodies interspersed throughout.
