I chose this Mongolian song because I found it had a lot of the elements we talked about in class. The similarities are the throat singing (which sounds the most like the western idea of singing that we’ve heard so far), also the technique of making the whistling sound which has a big part in Mongolian music. Other aspects that can be heard are the Horse Head Fiddles as the dominant instrument, with some other string instruments and a drum in the background. It has a steady or haunting quality and tone to it that makes it a calming yet interesting piece of music to listen to.
