From the information I could gather via the description and through some digging, I found out that this song was released as a part of an album called the “South Pacific Islands” by “Putumayo”. The song “Abebe” is performed by George Telek, who dedicates himself to singing in his native languages and is extremely well known in the Oceania community. The only information about the purpose of the song is found in the description. Since I personally don’t know the Kuanuan language it is difficult to understand what the lyrics themselves mean, but with the information we do have, we find out the song is singing about butterflies, and how each one represents the spirit of ancestors. Dynamically and rhythmically, there is not a lot to talk about here. Where this piece shines is in the Timbre and Pitch. There are various voices singing in this piece, presumably Telek, alongside what sounds like a guitar. Each sound works with one another, producing what feels like a peaceful, joyful feeling from the song. Pitch wise, you can hear a clear melody throughout the piece. I picked this piece because of the way song uses the voices in a really beautiful way, and it’s an example of the many types of folk music you can find within the Oceania region.
