After looking up Micronesian lullabies and songs for children, I found “the Carpenter Song- Marshallese Nonsense Song” recorded by the Moonlight String Band. It appeared in a playlist on Spotify called Songs from Micronesia, compiled by Viking Sevenseas New Zealand in 1969. The 13 songs in the album include some music in the holiday and música popular brasileira (MPB) genres. I chose this song because I learned some pretty funky songs after teaching kindergarten through 2nd graders for ten weeks over the summer. It includes a very fun and simple beat with pauses from the voices, including a mixture of some plucking strings, objects rubbing against each other, banging on a drum or box, and yah yah yahs. Though written in Marshallese, it is very catchy and gives an exciting vibe.
