I choose this listening because of its unique lyrics and sound. Te Ava Piti is a Polynesian musical group that often sings about their homeland and daily life. In the song “Te Reo Akakino,” however, the group sings about remorse and sorrow. I found this interesting because, despite its “happy” sound, with the ukuleles and fast rhythms,  the singing actually talks about how much pain is in their heart. In the second stanza, the singer is actually pleading with his parents to take away his pain and suffering. When you think of Oceania music, most people think of the happy lyrics and sound that they produce, but this listening shows that that is not always the case.
