The Faran Ensemble consists of three members who came together on a journey of spirituality. The purpose of the music is for the group’s enjoyment and the music itself. I found this music on YouTube. The instruments in the music consist of the Kamantche, OUD, and a Percussion instrument. The music starts slow but then rises to a crescendo. The percussion instrument and the OUD (chordophone) are played together to create a rhythm in which the rhythm in the music is fairly consistent but then increases in speed through the duration. The Kamantche creates the melody. The melody is soft and delicate, and the texture of the melody and rhythm is smooth. It is not as choppy as you would expect it to be. The melody’s contour slowly increases during a part of each section but then quickly moves down in pitch. Finally, this is not composed; they seem to be playing off of sound/familiarity. I chose this song because I liked how it was mellow and catchy at the same time. Also, it seemed they were playing from the soul, which I found intriguing.
