I chose this example because it reminded me a lot of country music that I am familiar with, but it had distinct features of Australian culture. The lyrics tell a comedic story about people coming into a pub and discovering the pub has no beer. It is based on a real pub local to Taylor’s Arm in New South Wales. I also noticed the mention of the Outback which is a common term for Australia. This song was released in 1957 and has a consistent strum of guitars, and though it does not have more traditional Australian instruments like the didjeridu, it has instruments like a drum set and guitars. I really enjoyed the comedic effect of this song and chose it because I felt it is a good representation of more modern and popular music from Australia.
