The song I selected was Why Kiki? by Ian Tongi. Ian Tongi is from Hawaii and won season 21 of American Idol being the first Pacific islander to win the show. The purpose of this song is to question why a woman broke Ian’s heart. The song is also a play on words as Ian’s hometown of Honolulu has a famous resort town called Wakiki. Originally I came across the song on TikTok and later found it on Spotify and YouTube shortly after Ian won American Idol. The reason I chose this song was because I thought it was cool that the most recent winner of American Idol was from the Oceania region.
