I chose the song Yellow Bird by Andre Toussaint because I enjoyed listening to the calypso example in class since it resembled jazz. It has quite a relaxed tempo and an interlude of muted brass with a soothing low male voice. Andre Toussaint was a Haitian singer and guitarist who is known as a popular calypso performer as well as a founding father of Bahamian music. He moved to the Bahamas and performed there for 28 years until his death. He was fluent in French, Haitian Creole, Italian, and Spanish and could play many different folk songs from different cultures with good diction.
