The song that I chose is called Angela by Kuami Eugene. I chose this song because as I was searching for a song from Ghana, his name came up a couple times with a couple different songs. His songs seemed similar to pop music that I listen to which I liked. I also liked the theme of the song, which is love. In the song, Kuami is professing his love for Angela and saying he’s not going to leave her. Even though it’s modernized music from Ghana, you can still hear some of the same instruments and sounds being used that we discussed in class. You can hear drums, clapping, and rattles. There is also a consistent tempo that is fast and upbeat, so the function of the song is most likely for dancing.
