Lullaby from Itsuki Village – YouTube
The song Lullaby of Itsuki happens to be a popular Japanese folk song. The name provides a self-explanatory story of an old lullaby created in a mountain village named Itsuki in southern Japan. This song seems to have been sung by girls working as babysitters for wealthier families. There are lyrics for the piece, but I found it difficult to find a video that sung the song rather than using instruments. Unsurprisingly, the lyrics are from the view of a girl toiling over caring for a child/baby. The melody of the song provides a sad and longing sense to the listener. It feels as though the piece is flowing on a river of tears. The melody is reputative, with the same flow up and down throughout. From listening to other recordings of the piece, the song has been played by a variety of instruments but ultimately, the piece was one to be sung.
