This is “The Distant Call of the Deer” by Kōhachirō Miyata & Rodrigo Rodríguez. I selected this song because of the calm and tranquil sound of the Japanese Shakuhachi bamboo flute. It is one of the most famous and recognizable shakuhachi pieces in the Mu-Ryu musical lineage. The piece calls for a particular kind of audible breathing where the melodic line is never lost. Often the work is played as a duet by two shakuhachi, and it is not certain which is the original version. It is said that the piece was originally learned by Kurosawa Kinko (1710-71).
