I searched for a while to find a piece from Southeast Asia that I felt stood apart from most of the pieces I was finding. Eventually I came across this piece which initially stood out because I saw the mask that the musician was wearing in the video. Considering there were no other pieces I came across that had a mask like that, I didn’t think it meant much. However after doing some research , it seems that the mask is similar to traditional Thai masks, it may just be a simpler version.
While the mask is original what caught my attention, I was really interested in the music itself too after I listened to it. It had a very upbeat feel to it, and the focus that seemed to be on one main instrument kept me very focused and engaged in the song. The main instrument that I was able to notice was the Kong Wong Yai, however there were many other instruments in the background. I felt like the instruments only helped to put the Kong Wong Yai front and center in the piece. The main secondary instruments I heard were some sort of percussion and what sounded like cymbals. I do not know for sure what all of the instruments in the piece were or anything about the artist because the video title and description are in Thai.
