The song I chose for my chapter 13 song share is Fire On The Mountain by The Grateful Dead. It is from their 1978 album Shakedown Street. This song, being like the vast majority of their songs, is a jam. It consist of sections where there is an instrument talking, and then the lyrics with the steady beat take over, and then another instrument gets to solo. The lyrics are very simple and repetitive. This is a studio recorded version, but the magic happens during their live performances when they jam out to songs for an hour. Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, and Phil Lesh are renowned as some of the best. But my favorite work has been done by Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders in their 1973 album Lion’s Share. I’ve listened to the Dead my whole life, and I have a great appreciation for their music.
