This song is from the famous Bollywood movie I watched in my jr year of high school in my Southern Asia Music Course called “Gully Boy”. This song is everything someone could want in music, it takes on a rap and r&b style of music but it’s not in English. I heard this song and fell in love with it. It has an upbeat music video with a dance the writers came up with that when you watch it you can’t help but do the dance too. The background to this song is, a kid growing up in India who is very poor but he loves rap. His family despises the idea of rap and this eventually leads to him being kicked out. He finds a big up-and-coming artist in India and takes a liking for his music after hearing him battle rap. They come up with the song and record it in the streets of India with hundreds of people in it, it’s just a hype song with an amazing music video. Mere Gully is a song I would show someone to introduce their minds to this type of music because it kind of has that American taste to it. If you need an idea to play in the class play this because I’d love for others to hear this song too, it is an absolute banger!
