For my Song Share assignment, I chose to share the song Here On To Kauai by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. I chose this song because I am a fanatic of Israel and I love all his music. Israel Kamakawiwo’ole was an iconic, native Hawaiian singer whose voice dominated the Oceanic music scene in the 1990’s. He is credited with writing and performing the original version of the song in 1995. The song has a simple ukulele melody that pairs well with Israel’s smooth and steady vocals. The recording I have found is from Youtube. In the song, he sings about the islands and calls them ‘home’. He emphasizes the simple way of life on the island, and how there isn’t a better place to call home. He mentions certain iconic locations throughout the well-known state of Hawaii, such as Hanalei, Wailua river valley, and the canyons of Waimea. The song was also featured on the 2011 Soul Surfer Soundtrack.
